Upon Waking

Upon Waking

There is a moment,
just after waking,
when the weight
of the world
has not yet wearied
my spirit. I dream,
in those tender seconds,
that I am merely a man,
no demons to destroy,
alive in the world. And then
with a fierce vengeance
the depression hits,
the anxiety heightens,
and I am reminded
that I am a monster, I
am the demon destroying
my self.
